GROS PITON CLIMB
St. Lucia Twin Pitons - What to Know Before Hiking
You don’t even need a map to hike the Pitons in St. Lucia. As both Gros Piton and Petit Piton trails are best hiked with a guide, your $90USD fee includes the guide and your entrance fees as well as water to keep you hydrated during the climb.
Hiking the Pitons takes about four hours, with the climb down being slightly shorter. Bringing a snack such as fresh fruit is highly recommended, and a cold Piton Beer will be waiting for you when you reach the bottom.

Ascending Gros Piton or Petit Piton is a grand experience (Trail starts 800 m above sea level where the highest peak 2,461ft) and for safety reasons it is recommended that you wear athletic apparel or loose clothing. Denim and other materials can hinder movement and cause you to overheat, while loose clothing is also better suited to the thinner air at the summit.
Please avoid wearing open toed shoes, sandals, or any footwear that exposes the foot to injury or that does not offer good traction. Hiking boots or sneakers are recommended during climbing tours.
Pacing yourself is essential to reaching the top of Gros Piton or Petit Piton. Make sure you rest when your body tells you it needs rest. The pictures you can get from the top are unlike any you’ll take elsewhere- make sure you give yourself the rest needed to be able to make it to the summit.
Asthma and other health issues don’t have to be a barrier to climbing the Pitons as long as your doctor says it is okay, but please make your guide aware of these issues and be sure to bring your inhaler or medications with you just in case.
